Mr C. was head hunted for a job as a Quantity Surveyor. After a lengthy recruitment process Mr C. was sent an e-mail confirming the job offer would be in the post and extolling the virtues of the Company. The Recruiter then contacted Mr C. to say that there was a problem.
The new employer had just had a meeting with Mr C.'s former employer and the former employer said "Don't touch him with a barge pole - he's a practicing homosexual", amongst other things.
Mr C complained to his old company about the comment; and Mr C's old company then complained to the new employer. The new employer ceased all contact with Mr C. and he did not receive the job offer. Mr C. sought advice from the Nottingham Law Centre.
The Nottingham Law Centre made claims of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation against both the former and prospective employers. The Law Centre followed these up with discrimination questionnaires.
Mr C. settled both claims for a total of £20,000.
